Apart from this homepage itself my most important project was my University Exam project, The Octopus. Also present here is my presskit for my Krumelur project. The Octopus
In the summer of 2005 I got my bachelors degree in Interaction Design from Malmö University. My final project was titled "octopus" and it is a deep dive into the fundamentals of music making and computer interfaces. My field of interest is the use of physical (tactile) interfaces when performing and my work is basically an investigation into the fundamental differences of tactile and graphical interfaces and how they affect the music performed and the user experience.
My main method of investigation was through a prototype physical interface used in different settings by musicians, my "guinea pigs" or test subjects if you will. The prototype was indeed a lofi one but fully functioning. As a special case study I chose to use Ableton Live as my DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) environment as it features functionality interesting for the study. My prototype is therefore specifically designed for use with this program. This gave me the possibility to directly compare the two fundamentally different means of interaction - using a graphical interface and using a tactile one.
Not surprisingly there are huge advantages to gain from using a tactile interface, especially when specifically designed, over a graphical one. The graphical interface is however only accessible through another tactile interface, a more generic one - the common mouse and keyboard. What my work shows is that no matter how intricate, elegant or "clever" any graphical interface is designed, it will still suffer the basic shortcomings of the generic computer input modules.

Krumelur Presskit
Basically biography and discography of Krumelur in a neat package, Adobe Acrobat format. Two different versions are availible, the original and the printer-friendly. The printer-friendly version has white background with black text to save you some ink and time.
